Health officials offer few details about COVID-19 test availability in Hburg — but continue to stress social distancing

On Tuesday, March 17, Elliott started having aches and chills. The next day, he got word that someone he’d been in contact with the prior week had just been diagnosed with COVID-19. And then on that Thursday, Elliott (whose name has been changed to protect his and the COVID-19 patient’s privacy) got a call from the Virginia Department of Health.

COVID-19’s effects send shockwaves of disruption across Harrisonburg

Harrisonburg businesses, organizations and other service providers made gut-wrenching decisions over the past 48 hours to dramatically scale back their interactions with the public. That has meant shifting to carry-out-only for restaurants, cutting back on hours of operations, limiting visitors to the hospital and, in many cases, closing up for the next couple weeks — at least.

Sentara RMH restructuring doctor compensation, closes two rural clinics

Doctors at Harrisonburg’s hospital could be facing pay cuts in
2020 as a result of Sentara Healthcare restructuring its compensation program
for physicians at its hospitals. A representative for Sentara confirmed in a statement to The Citizen that the company is restructuring doctor reimbursements through what it calls a “simplified and flexible Provider Compensation Plan.”
