‘We put the cart before the horse’: County school board members offer mixed feelings as they wrap up banned book reviews

After stripping 50 books from the shelves of county schools and preemptively banning seven more in January 2024, the Rockingham County School Board completed its review by voting on the fate of the final six titles Monday night.

Two more books banned at Rockingham schools; County students highlight suicide-prevention efforts

The Rockingham County School Board banned two more books from its libraries on Monday, following its Content Review Committee’s recommendation regarding one of them but going against that panel’s other decision.

A half-dozen temporarily banned books return to circulation in Rockingham Co. Schools

The Rockingham County School Board returned six more books to library and classroom shelves following their temporary removal earlier this year — but not without dissent from the board member who compiled the list of books to review.

As the Rockingham County school district reviews the 57 books the school board barred from libraries and classrooms in January, the process is expected to stretch throughout the summer and will be completed largely out of the public eye.
