Harrisonburg Democrats chose Dany Fleming and Monica Robinson as the party’s nominees for a pair of City Council seats in the November election, while the only sitting council member running for re-election, Chris Jones, finished third by a single vote.
Local political parties’ get-out-the vote efforts are in full swing now that Virginia’s early voting period has been open for a week, although this year’s governor’s race didn’t draw the initial influx of votes that the presidential race did last year.

Reed says she’s ‘still in this race’ after missing filing deadline; Democrats file extension request
Mayor Deanna Reed, the top vote getter in the last month’s Harrisonburg City Council Democratic primary, said she still plans to run for re-election and for her name to be on the Nov. 3 election ballot even though her election paperwork wasn’t submitted by Virginia’s June 9 deadline. And the state Democratic Party has stepped in to ask the state for a filing extension in the wake of other election-related postponements this spring.
According to results announced Saturday evening by the Harrisonburg Democratic Committee, Mayor Deanna Reed, along with political newcomers Charles Hendricks and Laura Dent, have been chosen as the Democratic nominees for City Council in the November election.
