Calvin Pynn is a freelance reporter based in Harrisonburg, Virginia, primarily covering local politics and other issues in the city for The Citizen. He is also a reporter for WMRA Public Radio along with a few of his friends at The Citizen, and is also the Adviser for James Madison University's student-run radio station, WXJM. Calvin grew up in the New River Valley and attended Radford University, where he was a Producer and On-Air Talent for WVRU, and the Arts & Entertainment Editor for the school's newspaper, The Tartan. Since graduating in 2012, his work has appeared in The Roanoke Times, The Southwest Times, the Daily News-Record, and as part of a reporting project for WQSV 106.3 FM in Staunton. Aside from that, Calvin is a relentless music nerd who plays guitar, collects vinyl, and supports local bands.
Crowd rallies downtown in solidarity with Palestine
More than 200 people stood outside the Rockingham County Courthouse late Saturday morning to show solidarity with the Palestinian people, after nearly two weeks of fighting between Israel and Palestine in Gaza and the West Bank.

New free clinic to open in Harrisonburg
A little over three months after the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Free Clinic closed, a new free clinic will soon begin serving low-income and uninsured area residents. The Blue Ridge Free Clinic will launch during the Remote Area Medical (RAM) Clinic, held April 10-11 at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds.

First COVID vaccines administered at RMH
After the Monday night arrival of a first shipment of Pfizer’s COVID vaccine at Sentara RMH, Mark Nesbit, an emergency medicine doctor, volunteered to get his shot right away. He didn’t realize until he arrived at the hospital’s employee health clinic on Thursday morning, however, that he would be the very first person at the hospital to receive it.
