John Leonard was an English teacher for a long, long time, and finally gave up the Capulets, Montagues and the Finch family to try out this writing thing. He started the website All Things Valley League in November of 2006, and follows the Valley League as close as humanly possible during the summer. He’s a Philadelphia Phillies fan, but try not to hold it against him. He and his wife and two daughters, alas not baseball fans, have lived in East Africa for many years, but moved back in June to live in Harrisonburg.
Let the games begin: Previewing the 2019 Harrisonburg Turks
Of the many, many things to do in Harrisonburg on a summer evening, few have been around as long as the Harrisonburg Turks, a local baseball team with a tradition stretching back almost 100 years. The Turks open their season at 7:30pm on Friday, May 31st, with a home game at Veterans Memorial Park against the Charlottesville Tom Sox.
