Virginia voters today will decide their next governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and the makeup of the state House of Delegates, including the winner of the 26th District that covers Harrisonburg and part of Rockingham County.

Virginia’s 26th House of Delegates race is underway, and Del. Tony Wilt, R-Broadway, and Democratic challenger Bill Helsley are trying to appeal to moderates.

With all votes counted, local results confirm Election Night finishes — and an upward trend for Hburg Democrats

After the city’s last absentee ballots were counted by Saturday, there was no substantive change from the picture that had emerged late on Election Day — in either this year’s races or with longer-term trends.

With 18 more days until the election, about one-fifth of Hburg voters already have cast ballots

More than 5,400 Harrisonburg residents have already cast their ballots since early voting began last month, according to figures the city registrar’s office provided to The Citizen. That includes 3,507 voters who cast their ballots early in-person at City Hall, as of Thursday. Another 1,167 absentee ballots — out of the 4,102 that were mailed out — have already been returned by mail and 861 people have delivered their ballots in person.

Candidates frequently use the old cliché: The only poll that matters is on Election Day. Voters will reveal those results of that all-important poll tomorrow. In the meantime, here are the main plots and subplots to pay attention to as vote tallies start rolling in Tuesday evening.
