Del. Wilt’s ‘roadkill bill’ is poised to clean up confusion in the law (and roads)

Before “the roadkill bill” that is awaiting Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s signature,  if a person hit a deer while driving, only that person could take the deer and only during deer hunting season.

Fight and flight: Witnessing the ugly side of birding

At first, I did a double-take. My wife and I had just turned the corner from Rawley Pike south onto Erickson Avenue, just west of Harrisonburg on Sunday. As we passed the Word Ministries Christian Church entrance, I noticed two large birds to my left, south of the church.Both birds furiously flapped their wings. But there was something extraordinary about what we were seeing.

Deer entrails give learning an emotional, real-world kick for HHS students

Harrisonburg High School teacher Myron Blosser’s educational philosophy is as follows: “Any time you do something you build more emotion than when you just see or read something.”

This Wednesday, that “doing something” had his students piled into the small radiology room at The Wildlife Center of Virginia in Waynesboro, peering x-ray images displayed on a computer.

“Yep,” one student called to Blosser, who was crowded out into the hallway. “This one’s got lead in it.”
