County and city school boards agree on how to pick MTC’s attorney

After exchanges between Rockingham County School Board and Harrisonburg City School Board members, the two entities came together Monday night and voted to allow the two systems’ school superintendents to each propose new legal representation names for Massanutten Technical Center.

Council denies townhomes development, allows for bow-hunting of deer

The Harrisonburg City Council turned down a rezoning request to construct several dozen townhomes off Port Republic Road in a rare 3-2 vote. The council also amended an ordinance to grant some leniency to bow hunters who plan to hunt deer and other game within the city limits during archery seasons.

What had otherwise been a low-temperature Rockingham County school board meeting ended with a lengthy speech by board chair Matt Cross addressing questions about RCPS’s new legal counsel after The Citizen and the Daily News-Record reported on a potential conflict of interest. In his remarks, he suggested he and other county board members might not attend an April 1 emergency meeting about the issue.

Mexican restaurant owner to open third location in Harrisonburg

Jose Reyes, co-owner of Tequila Taco Bar, plans to open his third restaurant in Harrisonburg — another Tequila Modern Mexican — as early as this spring. Last April, Tequila Modern Mexican off of Reservoir St. opened, and just short of a year later, a new location is opening near the Dayton Walmart.
