Seeking to be ‘proactive,’ city schools apply consistent emergency plan across campuses
For the first time, Harrisonburg City Public Schools are using a uniform Emergency Action Plan. On paper, the change is relatively small, but school leaders say the effects will lead to swifter and more organized responses to emergencies.
City to seek grant funds for Simms Center preservation, more sidewalks and Northend Greenway
The Harrisonburg City Council gave city officials the go-ahead Tuesday to apply for $165,000 in federal grant money to fund repairs at the Lucy F. Simms Center.

And now, those spaces are not only sticking around as part of the educational experience, but the city schools are looking to expand and improve them.
