Rockingham school board considers changing parental permission for students to get ‘family life’ instruction

As it stands, all Rockingham County students automatically receive family life education unless a parent opts them out. The curriculum, adapted for different age levels, covers everything from family relationships to sex education to mental health. The school board is now weighing a policy change that will flip that on its head.

Matt Cross’ time on the school board ends without him

Monday’s Rockingham County School Board meeting marked the end of Matt Cross’ tenure on the board after he lost his reelection bid last month. He did not attend.

Residents will have 24 hours to clean trash from their yards before the city takes action

If any trash — including disposable cups, containers, and wrappers — are visible in a yard, then the property owners will now have 24 hours to remove it after receiving a warning from the city. Council members approved the ordinance change in a 4-1 vote at their Tuesday meeting.
