First draft of next year’s budget calls for city worker raises and 3 cent real estate tax increase

The city council on Tuesday began discussing Harrisonburg’s 2023-24 budget, which includes a proposed real estate tax increase for a third consecutive year to help cover the cost of Rocktown High School. 

HDR receives $90,000 grant for music series; now seeks sponsors, volunteers

Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance learned Tuesday from the Levitt Foundation that Harrisonburg was one of 15 localities chosen around the country for the grant, signaling the start of more hard work to make the series happen.

City still seeking public input for public art at downtown’s northern gateway

Harrisonburg has been gathering input for the last month about ideas regarding a sculpture where Liberty and Main streets connect on the north end of downtown. And the city will continue to collect ideas from members of the public through August, including through an online survey.

Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance has received two state honors through the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development’s annual awards program, including an “MVP” award for its response to help small businesses through the pandemic.
