Mostly in their own words: What’s the difference between running a marathon and a radio station?
Except for the one year he spent at New Hampshire Public radio, WMRA’s general manager, Matt Bingay has been at the station, in one capacity or another, for just shy of 28 years. He started at WMRA as a 10-hour-a-week student part-timer in the Fall of ‘92, went full-time in ’94, became program director in ’97, and since October 2017 has been running the joint.

Just the facts: Journalism starts early for Hburg elementary students
At a time when journalism is rapidly changing, Harrisonburg High School journalists who help run workshops for budding elementary school reporters are not only teaching how to conduct interviews and check facts — but also how skills like following one’s curiosity and interacting with people can translate to all parts of life.

And so it begins. Hopes for and speculation about the future abound, as does list-making for a fresh year. As we set off for the next 12 months, get ready for plenty of “20/20 vision” references. In that spirit, here are 20 questions (in no particular order) for 2020 that address issues that will likely shape Harrisonburg for the next decade and beyond.
Dark as a dungeon, damp as the dew
As you probably know, this is the age of shuttered newsrooms and ex-reporters taking PR jobs and wistful talk about the good old days when local papers were thriving. Liking being a reporter, and being somewhat good a being a reporter, were no longer enough. I have no doubt that many former coal miners were committed and skilled themselves.
Daily News-Record building listed for sale
A historic downtown building that houses an equally prominent local institution has been put up for sale. Last Wednesday, the Daily News-Record building at 231 South Liberty Street was placed on the market. The move mirrors that of many local and national papers that have sold their historic headquarters.
