City to launch national search for new police leader as Chief Warner departs

After Harrisonburg Police Chief Kelley Warner announced Thursday evening she was leaving that role in June, city officials began planning to conduct a national search for her replacement.

City Council turns down collective bargaining, adopts ceasefire resolution

Officers in the Harrisonburg Police Department and other city employees cannot form collective bargaining units after city council members voted against a proposed ordinance. The council members, however, approved several other initiatives at Tuesday night’s meeting, including multiple public infrastructure projects and a resolution supporting calls for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Public safety agencies seek to attract needed reinforcements

With about 20 open positions in Harrisonburg Police Department and the fire department preparing to add a new station, the city is trying a host of strategies to attract new applicants for first responder jobs.
