Amid money crunch, school board cuts $1.2 mil. in new positions from budget
Harrisonburg City Public Schools is slowing the expansion of district-wide staff in response to expected revenue losses because of the pandemic. To this end, the Harrisonburg School Board, during its Tuesday work session, tentatively approved a first draft of budget revisions that takes out planned positions.

Dear Elderly Aunt, My sister has been living with her girlfriend for nearly a year. I went out with them in public a few times. That was back when we could all go out. They seemed to get along fine. But my sister, let’s call her “Jane,” has been making comments to me since the quarantine began that suggest her girlfriend can be verbally abusive. Maybe it’s just stress of being around each other 24-7. I’ve asked her point blank if she feels threatened and she emphatically said no. But I worry that Jane is in a damaging relationship and might not realize it. What should I do or can I do?

According to results announced Saturday evening by the Harrisonburg Democratic Committee, Mayor Deanna Reed, along with political newcomers Charles Hendricks and Laura Dent, have been chosen as the Democratic nominees for City Council in the November election.
The state of small businesses during COVID
Recessions are natural occurrences that happen periodically, much like five-mile backups on Interstate 81. More than minor inconveniences, however, recessions can quickly change the business landscape as demand dries up. They are indiscriminate and uncaring about the damage caused. What we are experiencing now is no normal recession, and never have we seen such a ferocious economic nosedive.
