With U.S. Covid cases rising, school board changes plan to mostly online learning this fall

Instead of requiring students to attend school a couple days a week this fall, the latest plan for the Harrisonburg City Public Schools will be to require most students to learn from home virtually five days a week, as a result of the discussion during Tuesday’s school board work session.

Harrisonburg students attended their first day of classes Tuesday, but because of a change in Medicaid approvals, some of them walked into school with less support than they had last year.

School board considers whether boosting amount of sick pay buyout at retirement will discourage teacher absences

The Harrisonburg City School Board is considering increasing the amount retired teachers could receive for unused sick days but will continue to debate the merits of the proposal during a future work session.
